M.E.V. Franasiak's work draws from memory; she chooses to paint the recollections at the forefront of her thoughts, much like stream of consciousness writing. They are not truths, however, but time-altered past perceptions. As opposed to centering upon the various factors that have altered the memories, she focuses on the current existence and evolution of the memory, itself. As the narrative paintings collect, broken stories emerge, based in reality, but altered into a layered version of partial fiction.
